There is no action needed on your part to be eligible. CalFresh households already receiving the maximum allowable allotment based on household size are not eligible to receive an emergency allotment of CalFresh benefits.

Public Health Advocates has an immediate opening for a project coordinator position to support ourtwo-year All Children Thrive - California (ACT-CA) equity-focused, community-driven initiative to expandthe role of cities and counties in preventing childhood trauma, countering its effects, and fosteringindividual, family, and community healing and resilience. All Children Thrive-California (ACT-CA) buildson our existing Healthy Eating Active Living Cities Campaign and the national ACT initiative supported byour partner in this initiative, the UCLA Center for Healthier Children, Families and Communities.
The ACT-CA Coordinator will coordinate events, track and facilitate sub-contracts and provideadministrative support to ACT-CA staff and Equity Advisory Group. The ideal candidate is detailoriented,experienced at planning events and meetings, works well independently, comfortable withtechnology and an excellent problem-solver.
Key Responsibilities:
• Scheduling support for all ACT-CA team meetings and team members who conduct businesswith city leadership, community members and partners.
• Send communication materials and represent the ACT-CA project to interested communitymembers
• Maintain a master contact list for ACT, receive and organize Technical Assistance (TA)contacts. Ensure the list is accurate, relevant contact information is updated
• Take meeting minutes and track action items for ACT-CA strategy meetings, coalition meetingsand learning community meetings.
• Travel planning support for ACT-CA team members (finding budget eligible lodging andtransportation)
• Coordinate the creation and submission of expense reports and quarterly reports by tracking,compiling and distributing documents to staff and partners
• Compiling evaluation documents
• Assembling documents and presentation materials for ACT-CA
• Coordinate sub-contracts and small grants to a group of ACT-CA cities. Interface with nonprofits,institutions and local city governments to manage and track grants and contracts.
• Serve as the point of contact for Equity Advisory Group (EAG) members. Manage each of theEAG member’s contracts with the project. Plan, coordinate and run logistics for quarterly EAGmeetings.
• Provide admin support, scheduling and coordination for virtual Learning Community meetingsthat include 15-30 local coalitions across the state.
Qualifications:
• Previous experience in administrative support, event planning, executive assistant or coordination role.
• Proficient in Google docs, Microsoft Outlook email and calendar functions
• Availability to travel to team meetings throughout the state
Position Details:
• This is a full-time non-exempt position in Sacramento, California
• Pay range: $15.31 – $22.96 per hour (commensurate with relevant experience)
• Eligible for full health benefits available to spouses, domestic partners and dependents
• Application period closes April 17, 2020
• Position is primarily telework
• Position available immediately (anticipated start date May1, 2020)
Additional Considerations:
• Experience in local policy work, working for an elected official or in a social service or mental health setting.
• Spanish language proficiency

Our work together, on behalf of the youngest among us, is far too important to stop during this time. This global pandemic calls for us to be intentional and more creative about staying connected, focusing on our well-being, and sharing ways to help. ZERO TO THREE is here with the expert advice, learning opportunities, and support you need to continue fostering the early connections for babies and toddlers that last a lifetime.
 
Our team has been working day in and day out (from home, of course) to fight for babies and toddlers in the federal stabilization packages, doing all we can to ensure that the recently passed Families First Act and CARES Actprovide families what they need to make it through this crisis and thrive afterward. And we are fighting hard right now to make sure the next package Congress is considering is even more responsive to the needs of families with babies and very young children.

To keep you informed and empowered to add your voice to conversations on Capitol Hill and in statehouses across the nation, we recently hosted a web broadcast with U.S. Representative Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) and nearly 30 Think Babies™ national organization partners. The virtual event drew over 7,300 registrants. A recording of this power-packed conversation, along with a legislative summaryand answers to questions posed by attendees about what is included in the FFCRA and CARES bills, and more policy and advocacy resources are available at zerotothree.org/covidpolicy.

  • For Everyone -On Friday, April 10, we invite you to join us for a Mindfulness Break. You will have an opportunity to practice mindfulness with Maria Gehl, our project director and internationally recognized leader in mindfulness in early childhood. During the session, Maria will guide us through simple yet effective techniques to use throughout each day to manage stress and anxiety.

  • For Early Childhood Professionals -Starting April 15, we are introducing a critical webinar series, Addressing Abuse and Neglect during COVID-19, for early childhood professionals. Social distancing and sheltering in place often heighten preexisting stress. With little outside social support or respite, children are at a greater risk for harsh disciplinary practices, abuse, and neglect. And for those responsible for children, the stressors are tenfold and directly felt by babies and young children. Join us for a guided reflection webinar series to connect with your community of support and gain actionable trauma-informed practices and prevention strategies.

    We know that your work is more challenging now thanever and that from child care to healthcare, many of you are on the front lines. In addition to our webinar series, we are here and ready to help you be responsive to families’ needs and your own self-care. Early Edge California Responds toGovernor Newsom’s Executive Order to Provide
Expanded Access to Childcare for Essential Workers During COVID-19
Governor Newsom signed an executive order on April 4, 2020 describing the need for state-subsidized childcare among workers in essential industries, including workers who may previously not have required childcare or who now require more childcare due to their work responsibilities during COVID-19.

We applaud Governor Newsom’s leadership and continuedsupport for families and their children during the COVID-19 crisis.

Early Edge California has compiled the following summary outlining key points from this executive order.
  • Any laws or regulations that would impede a childcare program from offering services to the children of essential workers aresuspended for a period of 60 days. Programs must meet the requirements described in informal bulletins or directives issued by the State Superintendent of Public Instruction.
  • Eligibility requirements for non-CalWORKS early learning and care programs are suspended for the children of state-identified essential workers.
  • The California Department of Education (CDE) and California Department of Social Services (CDSS) shall jointly develop guidelines prioritizing services for children of state-identified essential workers. Children at risk of abuse and neglect maintain first priority for state-subsidized programs. The guidance must address group size, physical distancing, food safety, and other guidance that reflects the best practices promulgated by federal, state, and local public health officials related to COVID-19.
  • Family fees for childcare programs are suspended for 60 days.
  • Any law or regulation restricting After School Education and Safety programs from operating while a school is closed due to COVID-19 or from serving school-age children of state-identified essential workers is suspended for 60 days.
  • For 21st Century Community Learning Centers, all state laws and regulations that exceed the requirements of federal regulations are suspended for 60 days. Centers still must meet federal laws and regulations.
  • Minimum attendance calculations required by state law for the After School Education and Safety Grant and the 21st Century High School After School and Enrichment for Teens (ASSETs)**program are suspended for 2019. Calculations required by federal law and regulations still apply.
  • CDE and CDSS may share data for the purposes of identifying students who are eligible for Pandemic SNAP benefits.
  • The CDSS, in consultation with CDE, may, for the next 60 days, waive or suspend any licensing, contractual, payment, eligibility, or registration requirements for CalWORKS Stage One childcare, the Emergency Childcare Bridge program, and the Childcare Provider Registration program.
**The purpose of the 21st Century High School After School Safety and Enrichment for Teens (ASSETs) Program is to support community learning centers for students in grades nine through twelve with academic enrichment opportunities and activities designed to complement students' regular academic program.

The Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program continues to serve families in need during the COVID-19 emergency. To protect all families and staff, local WIC offices may be offering services by phone or online until further notice. Please let families know that they should call the WIC office rather than go in person for enrollment or other assistance. If you have additional questions, please contact the state WIC office at WIC@cdph.ca.gov or (800) 852-5770.

YOLO COUNTY, CA -Staff have prioritized increasing a virtual presence to address community needs during COVID-19. To do so, Help Me Grow Yolo County has released webinar workshops, highlighted additional activities and resources on social media, and providedadditional developmental screening opportunities via the Centralized Access Point. HMG Yolo County also developed new social media blaststo promote the use of the Centralized Access Point. HMG Yolo County is working on a set of instructional videos on how to use the HMG Yolo County system to complete a developmental screening on a mobile device in English and Spanish.

Aid family leave / child care/ home visits

    • President Donald Trump on Wednesday signed a $100 billion coronavirus aid package into law which includes provisions for emergency paid leave for workers as well as free testing. The Senate passed a bill earlier in the day to expand paid leave and unemployment benefits in response to the coronavirus pandemic, part of a staggering response expected in the coming weeks to avoid economic calamity.

    • A  schools and businesses close across California to try to stop the spread of the coronavirus, child care providers are calling on Gov. Gavin Newsom to provide emergency support to stay in business during the coronavirus pandemic.
     

    EDUCATION

      • Virtually all schools across the state are closed and there has been hope that it might last only a few weeks and include spring break in many districts. But Gov. Gavin Newsom said Tuesday that schools might need to stay closed through the end of the academic year in response to the coronavirus emergency.
      • Gov. Gavin Newsom advised school districts on Tuesday that they should expect to be closed the rest of the school year. On Wednesday, educators began Day 1 of that new and, for some, shocking reality with a 75-minute webinar led by the California Department of Education, viewed by about 7,000 people, on how to provide distance learning, meals for students and limited child care while schools are shut down because of the coronavirus.
